POOL PROCEDURES

Emergency Procedures at the Pool

Coaches will be following the directions given by the pool staff and emergency personnel.  All swimmers and parents should follow the directions of the coaches, life guards, and emergency personnel.

Fire Alarm

  • All swimmers and any others at the pool should exit the pool and bathrooms/locker rooms.
  • Gather with the team waiting for directions from the Head Coaches unless the pool staff or emergency personnel directs you elsewhere. At SROP that is usually the grassy area by the bleachers. At Dougherty it is usually by the bleachers.
  • Head Coaches will lead the team to where the pool staff/emergency personnel directs them to go. At both pools, the evacuation is usually to the parking lot.
  • If a parent decided to leave with a swimmer, they must check out with the Head coach first. DO NOT LEAVE without checking out first.
  • No one will be allowed to leave if it impedes access to emergency personnel/vehicles or if it endangers others.
  • While out of the pool and waiting for the emergency to clear, coaches will try to distract kids with a game to keep their attention with them and away from the emergency scene.
  • If the emergency involves an Aqua Bears team member, coaches will use the emergency information listed under your team account to try to contact the family.
  • Coaches will lead swimmers and family/friends back to the pool when the pool staff/emergency personnel give the okay.

Whistle/Air Horn Commands to be aware of:

  • One Short WHISTLE Blast: To get the attention of people at the pool.
  • Two Short WHISTLE Blasts: To get the attention of another pool staff member.
  • One AIR HORN Blast: Activates a rescue by the pool staff and life guards.
  • Two AIR HORN Blasts: All swimmers need to clear out of the pools

Some or all of these may be conducted simultaneously:

  • Coaches will follow the directions of the pool staff and emergency personnel to assist in clearing the pool.
  • All swimmers and others should come out of the bathrooms, locker rooms, and pool and gather by the coaches unless directed otherwise by pool staff and emergency personnel.
  • Coaches will assist in crowd control to keep everyone together yet away from the emergency.  Coaches will try to distract swimmers attention away from the emergency. Coaches will await further directions.
  • Coaches will assist the pool staff/emergency personnel to contact a family member if the emergency involves an Aqua Bear.

Pool Courtesy and Guidelines

Drop-off/Pick-up, Locker Rooms, and Pool

Parking Lot Rules

  • It is okay to drop-off quickly in the drop-off zone if there is not a line of cars blocking the driveway or street.  If there is a long line then please drive in and park. Do NOT block the driveway or street.
  • For pick-up please park your car and either walk-in to get your swimmer or have them carefully walk out to your parked car.. Do NOT wait in the drop-off zone for picking up.
  • Be sure to pick up on time especially if it is the last practice of the day

Locker Room Rules

  • Do not leave your items unattended. There have been thefts from the locker rooms.
  • Please don’t bring valuables to the pool.  If you do have valuables, bring a lock for the lockers (you must remove the lock when you finish for the day).
  • Leave locker room benches clear during your swim time.  Please lock up your items or take your items on deck with you during practice.  Benches should be left clear for those changing in the locker room.

Water Bottles

  • Water Bottles should be contained or thrown away.
  • Water bottles are clogging the pool drains.  Be sure to contain the bottles if continuing to use or throw them away immediately to prevent them blowing into the pool.
